Dermatologist vs. Nurse Practitioner
Many healthcare providers claim to specialize in skin care but what makes a Board Certified Dermatologist different?
Dr. Ecklund and Dr. Jones require the following credentials (which set them apart from someone who simply claims to specialize in skin care):
4 years of college
4 years of medical school
4 years of residency
Re-certification every 10 years
What is a PA-C?
Physician Assistants are healthcare providers who are educated at medical schools, in the medical model. They are trained to diagnose and treat illness, as well as provide preventative care in partnership with a physician supervisor.
The “C” indicates that a PA is certified by the National Commission of Certification of PAs. This certification requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years, along with passing a national recertification exam every six years to maintain that very important “C”.

Benjamin Jones, M.D.
Medical Director
Dr. Jones is board certified in medical and surgical dermatology from the American Board of Dermatology, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), and of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS).
Kirk Ecklund, M.D.
Dermatologist
Dr. Ecklund is a Member of American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Mohs Surgery, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc.
Jennifer Martin, PA-C
Physician Assistant
Jennifer is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), and is board certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Jeff Van Troba, PA-C
Physician Assistant
Jeff is a long time resident of the Yakima Valley and is excited to begin his new chapter with our clinic. He comes well armed with a multi faceted and experienced medical career.
